چکیده

I should like to thank the Society for the honour you have done me by asking me to read a paper. I have always had a great respect for this Society, which I believe is one of the oldest as well as one of the most important of all obstetrical societies, and like gynaecologists throughout the Englishspeaking world, I have held in reverence for many years the great teachers of the Edinburgh School, the Simpsons, Hart and Barbour, Sir Halliday Croom and Haultain. Of my friends of the present generation I must say nothing, but may I say how much I respect for their work and personal qualities many distinguished men who have been trained in this school, particularly my friends, Donald and Fothergill of Manchester, and Dr Eden and Sir Henry Simson of London. When Professor Watson and Dr Young asked me, about a year ago, to read a paper here on the pernicious vomiting of pregnancy, I replied that I should be unable to say sufficient
